    EAN碼的全名歐洲商品條碼(European Article Number)，於1977年開始發展，EAN條碼系統的管理，是由國際商品條碼協會統籌( International Article Numbering Association) 負責各會員國的國家代表號碼之分配與授權，再由各會員國的商品條碼專責機構，對其國內的製造商、批發商、零售商等授予廠商代表號碼，而香港的指定專責機構便是『香港貨品編碼協會』 ( Hong Kong Article Numbering Association)。
